Kerry
Cobuccio
(b.1980) has always
had an interest in the arts, which have included singing, acting, and
performing in bands, orchestras, and chamber groups. She began
composing at the age of sixteen. She stumbled upon a composition class
at a music camp, and has not been able to stop
since! She wrote her first piece at this camp with the help of future
composition teacher,
Michael Annicchiarico. This inspired her to pursue music as a career,
and during her junior year, she finally came to terms with her passion,
composing. Kerry has a BM in music theory from the University of New
Hampshire (2002), an MA in musiccomposition, and a Preparing Future
Faculty Program Certificate from the University of Minnesota
(2005). She is currently in the Film Scoring Program at the
University of California, Los Angeles.
Her principal composition teachers have been Michael Annicchiarico, Andrew
Boysen, and Judith
Lang Zaimont. She has
studied clarinet with Patricia Cunningham, Dave Seiler, and
John Anderson. Kerry continues to be an active performer, particularly
in new music. She was a member of the New Music
Ensemble at the University of Minnesota and has performed pieces
written by herself
and her colleagues. She is a member of ASCAP, American Composers Forum,
International Alliance of Women in Music, College Music Society, Phi
Kappa Phi, and a Life Member of Kappa Kappa Psi.
Kerry
has written and arranged music of all kinds of medium
including chamber works,
large ensemble music, electronic music, and film and media. Her music
has appeared in the film of free-lance artist Jennifer
Quick, soloists at the ameteur and professional level,
ensembles in public
schools, Zeitgeist
and the coast guard band. Her music reached the media on KFAI in
Minneapolis and on podcasts on Destructoid.com. Kerry has worked
with composers in the greater Los Angeles area including Yuval
Ron and James L. Venable.
She has taught clarinet, theory, composition, and general music
in the Manchester Schools (New Hampshire), the University of New
Hampshire
Summer Youth Music School, an instructor in music theory fundamentals
(University of Minnesota), and music appreciation and pop music and
culture (Schoolcraft College, Michigan). She has participated in the
Preparing
Future Faculty Program, a program
that allows graduate students to mentor at a neighboring college and
act
as a guest lecturer. Teaching is as important as composing to
Kerry.
Kerry lives in Los Angeles with her fiancee Dave.
